Bailey's Turkeys
How it started...
Jim Bailey had a passion for turkeys and bred them for family, friends and local neighbours. Word of Jim's turkeys spread and in 1952 he decided to sell them. In his first Christmas as a turkey producer Jim sold 350 turkeys! Since then the business has grown but it still remains a family concern with the whole Bailey family helping out during the busy Christmas rush.
Our Turkeys
As variety is the spice of life, we use five breeds of turkey's - Wirral Bronze, Wirral White, Wirral Supreme, Hockenhull White and Hockenhull Bronze. The Bronze breeds are the traditional turkey with an intense flavour which represents the true taste of Christmas. The White's are a more recent breed with a less intense flavour for those who prefer a more subtle turkey meat taste. All our turkeys are slow maturing which is the secret to their succulent meat and fantastic flavour.

Our breeding and welfare...
All of our turkeys are hatched on the Wirral in Cheshire. Our new born chicks (known as 'poults') are raised in our brooding facility where they are carefully nurtured. As they grow they are gradually acclimatised to more open spaces and a cooler climate. When the turkeys are older and strong enough to cope with their new environments they are transported in specially adapted lorries to our Cheshire farms. Here, our free range turkeys have access to the fresh, lush Cheshire grass. They even have calming music played to them to them and toys to keep them amused.

Our 'White Barn Reared Turkeys' are kept in spacious pole barns with plenty of ventilation and free roaming space. They are bedded on fresh barley straw and fed a diet of high quality grain which is free of any growth promoting products or antibiotics. This high quality feed was especially developed and contains over 80% cereals, vitamins, minerals & calcium.
Our 'Bronze Free Range Turkeys roam on lush Cheshire grass during the day and are safely tucked up in their barns at night to protect them from any predators. Whilst outside they behave naturally, foraging for food and using sand baths to keep their feathers dry and clean.
At Christmas time we sell only female turkeys (known as 'hens'). Hen turkeys have a finer grain in the meat making them tender. They also carry more meat on the breast which means customers get more meat per lb/kilo....so great value!
